Vanderbilt Health Affiliated Network

Project Overview

As Tennessee’s largest physician-led healthcare network, Vanderbilt Health Affiliated Network (VHAN) needed a marketplace brand as strong as the network providers it connected. Charged with representing their innovative service and tradition, we created a digital presence that would carry them into the future as well as provide a place for the active collaboration that leads them to offer the best care possible.

Looking to the future

Not only did we need to establish instant credibility for this new brand, we were tasked with positioning VHAN as the future of Vanderbilt University Medical Center in the new healthcare economy. We designed every aspect with intention—logo, color palette, icons, and infographics—to reflect this unique network.

This nod to efficiency reflects throughout the website. Site design features clear, quick understanding and navigation, with signpost icons added to optimize the experience. The colorful systemization brings life to an otherwise sterile environment and differentiates the three main target sections.

Prototyping and integration

Our agile workflow was key to quick implementation. Prototyping in-browser was an effective tool to demonstrate ideas and expedite the process as we rolled out the project in phases. Once we introduced the brand to the public, we turned our attention to building custom backend systems for the VHAN infrastructure. We designed tools to allow secure file and knowledge transfer, members-only content, and searching the network.

The Find a Doctor tool dynamically searches the network based on doctor name, specialty, and location, based on a complex integration with the network’s API. Complex, but still works great on both desktop and mobile devices.

Rapid growth

Now in 2016, the network has grown to 3,500 providers, resulting in $15 million savings to health plan customers.
